Oct. 23, 2010— -- Pop star Katy Perry and British comic Russell Brand were married today in at lavish yet traditional Hindu wedding ceremony in northwestern India, according to an official.
The ceremony, conducted by a Hindu priest, took place at Rambagh Palace and was attended by the couple's close friends -- rumored to include Rihanna and baseball player Matt Kemp -- and family, according to an anonymous hotel official.
Private security guards have been stationed at the Aman-e-Khas wildlife retreat and the guests' hotels, where the wedding group gathered for a five day celebration.
Photographers and paparazzi have been banned from the resort area; the couple have sold the exclusive rights to photos of their wedding to a London-based magazine.
The wedding venue was lit with lamps, colorful lights illuminated the trees and flower garlands festooned the luxury tents at the resort, while both Brand and Perry wore traditional Indian clothes to the wedding. Perry donned a sari and had henna designs applied on her palms and hands.
The Ranthambore National Park, where the Aman-e-Khas wildlife retreat is located, is filled with wildlife species including tigers, leopards, wild boars, hyenas and sloth bears.
The location holds a special place for the couple, as Brand proposed to Perry in the historic Indian city of Jaipur on New Year's Eve.
The 26-year-old Perry's second album, "Teenage Dream," was one of this year's best-sellers.
Brand, 35, is known for his drug-addled past and hedonistic tendencies. He is next set to star as Trinculo in "The Tempest" and the title character in a remake of "Arthur."
