Kevin McHale Says 'Glee' Never Recovered After Cory Monteith's Death

— -- Sorry, "Glee" fans, don't expect to see a spinoff of the series anytime soon.

Star Kevin McHale told "The HuffPost Show" on Friday that he doesn't expect the series to return in the future, especially since viewership dropped in the later seasons of the FOX show.

"Towards the end, there weren't that many people watching 'Glee.' So I don't know how many people would then watch a spinoff," McHale quipped. "We're off the air for a reason."

McHale said he believes the show never really recovered following the death of star Cory Monteith in July 2013.

"When Cory Monteith died I don't think the show ever came back from that -- and it wasn't for a lack of trying, but the story was going in one direction with this character and he was one of two main characters on the show. So I think after that, just the vibe on set was different."

He added, "It was just weird for us being there, never mind actually filming it. Being one of the writers in that situation, I don't know what I would have done, because I don't really want to be here and never mind having to think of storylines revolving around these characters anymore."

"Glee" aired its final episode on March 20, after six seasons.
