Roberts, 53, will serve as the company’s president. She will remain in her post at “GMA” while continuing to oversee operations at her company, according to the statement.
Roberts said she was “very excited” to be involved in the business, development and creative sides of production.
“I’m blessed to be able to do even more of what I love to do and now reach an even broader audience with programming that will inspire, inform and entertain people,” Roberts said. "I’m so grateful to my ABC and 'GMA' family for supporting the launch of the company.”
The company’s website, rocknrobin.tv, will showcase behind-the-scenes footage and photos from Rock’n Robin’s various productions. It will also feature the blog, N’Courage, through which Roberts and her staff will highlight the stories of everyday people who have displayed courage despite the odds, plus the stories of those who encourage others to be their best.
“In the Game With Robin Roberts,” now in its third season, will premiere on espnW on Thursday, Sept. 4, as Rock’n Robin’s first production. The upcoming episode will feature an interview with Michael Sam, the first openly gay player to be drafted by an NFL team.
Veteran ABC News executive John R. Green is the executive vice president of programming and development of Rock’n Robin Productions and he will run the company’s daily operations. Green will remain at ABC as executive producer of special programming, overseeing primetime specials with Roberts and other network anchors.
