Why Selena Gomez Checked Into Rehab
The singer sought help, but not for substance abuse, her rep confirmed.
Feb. 5, 2014 -- Selena Gomez checked into a treatment center last year, ABC News confirmed.
However, her rep shot down tabloid rumors that the "Come & Get It" singer checked into The Meadows center in Arizona on Jan. 5 for drug and alcohol abuse.

"Selena voluntarily spent time at Meadows but not for substance abuse," her rep said.
There were more signs that something was amiss: Around that time, Gomez, 21, announced that she was canceling tour dates in Asia and Australia to focus on herself.

"My fans are so important to me and I would never want to disappoint them," she said in a statement. "But it has become clear to me and those close to me that after many years of putting my work first, I need to spend some time on myself in order to be the best person I can be. To my fans, I sincerely apologize and I hope you guys know how much each and every one of you mean to me."
