'Star Wars: Episode VII' Cast Announced: 'Girls' Star Adam Driver, Max Von Sydow and More

A "Girls" star and an Oscar nominee will join original cast members on screen.

April 29, 2014 -- The cast of the new "Star Wars" film has been announced.

In addition to the original stars, a slew of newcomers will appear in "Star Wars: Episode VII."

According to franchise website, "Girls" star Adam Driver, John Boyeta, Daisy Ridley, Oscar Isaac, Andy Serkis, Domhnall Gleeson and Oscar nominee Max von Sydow will join Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher, Mark Hamill, Anthony Daniels, Peter Mayhew, and Kenny Baker in the film.

The movie is slated to be released on December 18, 2015.

"We are so excited to finally share the cast of 'Star Wars: Episode VII,'" director J.J. Abrams said. "It is both thrilling and surreal to watch the beloved original cast and these brilliant new performers come together to bring this world to life, once again. We start shooting in a couple of weeks, and everyone is doing their best to make the fans proud."
