Madonna Announces Dates for First Tour Since '93
April 16 -- Pop queen Madonna today announced the itinerary for the summer Drowned World Tour, her first outing since The Girlie Show in 1993.
The tour, which supports last year's Music, kicks off June 5 in Cologne, Germany, and later crosses the Atlantic to open July 21 in Philadelphia. Twelve shows are planned in the United States, with the run concluding Sept. 9 in Los Angeles.
The singer's record label, Maverick, a division of Warner Bros. Records, promises that the set of shows will be "one of the most extravagant stage spectacles of her career."
Madonna performed several one-off shows last year, with extremely limited ticketing. A show in December at London's Brixton Academy only accommodated 3,500 fans. However, the concert was broadcast over the Internet and set a record by drawing 9 million Web users.
Ticketing information, when available, will be posted on tour producer SFX's Web site, sfx.com.
