January 21 -- No more Mr. Nice Guy.

Dylan McDermott, who plays do-gooding Bobby Donnell on ABC's legal drama The Practice, is in negotiations with Columbia Pictures to play against type in the thriller Enough opposite Jennifer Lopez.

According to Variety, McDermott would play Lopez's character's charming but abusive husband. Hey, it's the type of role that's earned Keanu Reeves some of the best reviews of his career in the just-opened thriller The Gift.

TV actor McDermott hasn't had a bona fide screen hit, despite such efforts as Three to Tango and 'Til There Was You, both romantic comedies. A cowboy role in Texas Rangers, which co-starred Dawson's Creek's James Van Der Beek, was bumped from fall to a spring release date.

Lopez's The Wedding Planner, a romantic comedy that teams her with Matthew McConaughey, opens next Friday, followed by her drama Angel Eyes, due in August.
