Woody Allen's Father Dies

January 10 -- Woody Allen's 100-year-old father, Martin Konigsberg, passed away Monday, according to The Associated Press.

The Oscar-winning filmmaker had just told the New York Daily News that a family doctor had told him his father "could pass a draft physical tomorrow."

"My father is a classic example of a guy who smoked two packs a day since he was 16," said Allen, whose given name is Allen Stewart Konigsberg. "[He e]ats two eggs for breakfast and meat for dinner seven days a week, dishes of ice cream before bed at night."

Konigsberg, who turned 100 on Dec. 25, was a former restaurant waiter and jewelry engraver. That might explain why, in the Allen documentary Wild Man Blues, Konigsberg appears blasé about his son's many trophies and plaques — except for the quality of the engraving on them.

Konigsberg is also survived by his wife of nearly 70 years, Nettie Konigsberg, and his daughter, film producer Letty Aronson.
