— -- TV host extraordinaire and longtime “Dancing With the Stars” co-host Tom Bergeron will be doing double-duty as the host of “A Capitol Fourth,” an Independence Day special airing tonight on PBS.

This is Bergeron’s fourth time hosting the special that presents a star-studded concert and fireworks extravaganza, and he chatted with “GMA”’s Lara Spencer about the program.

“It’s a live show on the West lawn on the U.S. Capitol with a star-studded line up and great fireworks," Bergeron said, adding that it's, "one of my favorite stages to walk out on.”

Apart from the fact that he enjoys doing live television, Bergeron said he likes hosting “A Capitol Fourth” because of what it symbolizes.

“It is a celebration of who we are," he continued. "It's a wonderful time to remember that we may be a dysfunctional family, but we are a family and that just underscores that even at the birth of this nation it wasn't about a bunch of guys in powdered wigs singing Kumbaya. It was tough."

Bergeron also talked with Spencer about his hosting gig on “Dancing With the Stars.” The reigning pro champion, Peta Murgatroyd is engaged to former “DWTS” pro Maks Chmerkovskiy. Last week the couple announced they were expecting their first child.

Asked how Murgatroyd was able to pull off partnering Nyle DiMarco to their mirror ball championship win in May, Bergeron replied: “At the end of the season if you just said hello to Peta [she’d] start weeping.”

Spencer mentioned the good-looking pair’s genes and Bergeron agreed, saying: “That’s going to be a good-looking kid.”

“A Capitol Fourth” airs tonight at 8 p.m. ET on PBS. The lineup of performers includes Gavin DeGraw, Kenny Robinson, Smokey Robinson and Amber Riley.
