'War Room' Bumps 'Compton' Straight Outta Box Office Top Spot

— -- The religious drama "War Room," which has surpassed expectations since its debut last week, took the top spot at the box office over the weekend, bumping "Straight Outta Compton" off the top spot it has held for three weeks.

"War Room," which stars a cast of relative unknowns, including Priscilla Shirer and Karen Abercrombie, earned $9.4 million between Friday and Sunday, according to Rentrak.

Newcomer "A Walk in the Woods," starring Robert Redford and Nick Nolte, opened in third place with an $8.2 million take.

Here are the top 10 movies from Friday through Sunday, with estimated ticket sales, according to Rentrak:

1. "War Room," $9.3 million

2. "Straight Outta Compton," $8.8 million

3. "A Walk in the Woods," $8.2 million

4. "Mission: Impossible Rogue Nation," $7.2 million

5. "The Transporter Refueled," $7.1 million

6. "No Escape," $5.4 million

7. "Man From U.N.C.L.E.," $3.4 million

8. "Un Gallo con Muchos Huevos," $3.4 million

9. "Sinister 2," $3.4 million

10. "Inside Out," $3.1 million
