July 16, 2011— -- The Head and the Heart is the voice of this week's Your Three Words, with their song "Lost In My Mind."

The band came together in Seattle in summer 2009, during open mic night performances at Conor Byrne.

Josiah Johnson and Jonathan Russell formed the core songwriting partnership, and keyboardist Kenny Hensley quickly joined them.

Violinist and singer Charity Rose Thielen then followed, along with drummer Tyler Williams, who left a successful band in Virginia after Jon sent him a demo tape. Finally, Chris Zasche, who was bartending at those open mic nights, joined as the bassist.

"Lost In My Mind" is off the band's debut self-titled album.

"The Head and the Heart" was recorded in early 2010 and self-released.

The album was re-released early this year, after the band signed with the label SubPop.

It was re-mastered, one of the songs was re-recorded and the live favorite "Rivers and Roads" was added.

The Head and the Heart has been on the road since February and is not slowing down.

They've played shows with Death Cab for Cutie, My Morning Jacket, and Iron and Wine, and have upcoming dates with The Decemberists.

And the band begins its first headlining tour immediately after playing at the Austin City Limits Festival on Sept. 18.
