Andrew Garfield says he will always be grateful for playing Spider-Man
He also shot down rumors he'll appear in "Spider-Man: No Way Home."
Andrew Garfield maintains fans will not see him in the upcoming Tom Holland-led movie, "Spider-Man: No Way Home." However, when reflecting on his two-time stint as the titular webslinger, he said he's forever grateful for the experience.
"It was only beautiful," Garfield, 38, told Variety in a new interview. "I got to meet Emma [Stone] and work with her and Sally Field."
The British actor and Stone played on-screen couple Peter Parker and Gwen Stacey, respectively, in the 2012 and 2014 installments, while also dating in real life as well.
Garfield also revealed how special the iconic red-and-blue suit was to him. When he was 3, his late-mother, Lynn, sewed him a Spider-Man costume out of felt, and 25 years later she watched him portray the beloved character on the big screen. Lynn died in 2019 from cancer.
When pressed on the rumor he'll appear alongside Holland and fellow former Spidey Tobey Maguire in "Spider-Man: No Way Home," Garfield said, "I understand why people are freaking out about the concept of that because I'm a fan as well. You can't help but imagine scenes and moments of 'Oh, my God, how f------ cool would it be if they did that?'"
"But it's important for me to say on the record that this is not something I'm aware I am involved in. But I know I'm not going to be able to say anything that will convince anyone that I don't know what's happening," he admitted. "It's either going to be really disappointing for people or it's going to be really exciting."
"Spider-Man: No Way Home" is set to swing into theaters Dec. 17, 2021.
