Chris Hemsworth on possibly playing James Bond: 'I'd love to do it'

Chris Hemsworth is one of the many actors who have expressed interest in playing the iconic James Bond role after Daniel Craig's final appearance in 2020.

Since Craig revealed the upcoming not-yet-titled film would be his last as the famous secret agent, speculation has already started on who will take on the role with his departure.

In a recent interview with Balance, Australian actor Hemsworth, 35, said he would "love to do it."

He said that he even received some comments comparing his 2013 role, as British racing driver James Hunt in "Rush," to Bond's character.

“When we were shooting Rush someone had said that and I thought, ‘Cool, if this is my audition tape, then great.’ I don’t think you’ll ever meet anyone who doesn’t want to have a crack at James Bond," he told the outlet.

However, the "Thor" star admitted there are many factors that will go into casting the next James Bond, including producer Barbara Broccoli's approval.

“But that’s up to so many elements and is way beyond myself; it’s not one you can pitch yourself on to either," he said. "It’s something that the community of Bond fans, Barbara Broccoli and the whole crew there agree on, and it has to be a very organic decision from them."

"There have been a lot of names thrown out there and a lot of brilliant people can tackle that one,” he added.

Hemsworth is right. Actors including Idris Elba, Tom Hiddleston and Richard Madden, among others, are also rumored to be in consideration for Craig's replacement.

Elba even poked fun at the speculation with a selfie alongside Craig at the 2019 Golden Globe Awards in January.

"Awks..." he wrote in the shot, which was also captioned "Er..." and widely circulated over social media.

The actor later shut down ideas that the image was any type of confirmation of him starring in the franchise.

"We just did it on the spur of the moment, thought it would be a laugh," he told Event Magazine. "It was a selfie. Didn’t realize it would be picture of the year."

"Bond is one of the biggest franchises in the world, and for that reason, whoever ends up playing it, lives it," Elba added. "You’re THAT character, and known as that character for many, many years. I’m creating characters now that can still live alongside Idris. Not ones that take over me and solely define me."
