How Freddie Prinze Jr. met his wife Sarah Michelle Gellar
They first crossed paths on the set of "I Know What You Did Last Summer."
Now we know how Freddie Prinze Jr.'s and Sarah Michelle Gellar's love story began.
As it turns out, the “Scooby-Doo” actor, 44, got to know the “Buffy the Vampire Slayer” actress, 42, pretty well back when they were filming “I Know What You Did Last Summer.”
Their characters didn’t have many scenes together -- they starred in the flick with Ryan Phillippe and Jennifer Love Hewitt -- but Prinze Jr. ended up giving Gellar a ride in his car quite often.
Gellar didn’t have her driver’s license and didn’t know how to drive, which was a problem considering they were shooting the 1997 horror classic in Southport, North Carolina. Prinze Jr. stepped in and, during their drives, the two “became friends,” he told Us Weekly.
“We just would talk about life and stuff like that, and we had completely different philosophies on just about everything,” he went on. “‘Cause she was a born and raised New Yorker and I was a born and raised L.A. kid, and we just looked at everything like night and day.
As they got closer, Prinze Jr. said they bonded over food -- which led to Gellar then playing host to a “weekly barbecue” with his family. Seeing as how he thought she was “too skinny,” he couldn’t help but want to cook for her. It was all history from there.
Prinze Jr. and Gellar eventually tied the knot in 2002 and are now parents to their two children -- a 10-year-old daughter named Charlotte and a 7-year-old son named Rocky.
