Kevin Costner's "Horizon: An American Saga: Chapter 2" will not arrive in August as planned.

On Wednesday, a New Line Cinema spokesperson confirmed the news and said in a statement that the second film of Costner's Western epic will not be released on Aug. 16 "in order to give audiences a greater opportunity to discover the first installment of 'Horizon' over the coming weeks, including on PVOD and MAX."

"We thank our exhibition partners for their continued support as moviegoers across the US discover the film in its theatrical run," the statement continued.

Territory Pictures also shared a statement to talk about both films.

"The audience response to 'Horizon', and enthusiasm for seeing our story continue in 'Horizon 2', has been incredibly gratifying," the production company said. "Kevin made this film for people who love movies and who wanted to go on a journey. The support that we have received from film fans, and the theater owners, as they experience the first chapter of this saga only serves to reinforce our belief in them and the films that we have made, and we thank them for coming on board for the ride."

"We welcome the opportunity for that window to be expanded as we know it will only serve to enhance the experience of seeing 'Horizon 2,'" Territory Pictures added in its statement.

"Horizon: An American Saga: Chapter 1" opened on June 28 and earned $11.1 million in its opening weekend at the box office, according to The Numbers, a film industry data website that tracks box office revenue.

The film's star-studded cast includes Sienna Miller, Sam Worthington, Jena Malone, Own Crow Shoe, Luke Wilson, Isabelle Fuhrman, Jamie Campbell Bower and more. Costner's son Hayes, also appears in the movie alongside his movie star father, who also co-wrote the script for the film.

The project is set in the American West during the Civil War years, 1861 to 1865, and chronicles the American expansion of the West in an all encompassing story about how the United States came to span from ocean to ocean.

In May, Costner told GQ that he hopes to extend the films into a four-part Western saga and said that "they're already written."

Amid the news of "Horizon 2's" August theatrical release date being pulled, Costner shared a post on Instagram on Wednesday, in which he recalled one of his early projects he starred in: "Silverado," a Western that was released in 1985. The post featured a clip of Costner from the film wearing a Western costume riding on a horse and another of him in what appears to be a Western saloon.

"39 years ago today we released Silverado to the world," he began in the caption of his post. "It was a dream come true for me to be in a Western movie, and to have Lawrence Kasdan at the helm was the cherry on top."

"I hope that @horizonamericansaga is stirring hearts the way that this movie has stirred mine for nearly four decades," Costner added.

A new release date for "Horizon 2" has not been announced yet.
