After his wife gave birth to 14 boys over 28 years, Jay Schwandt figured it "wasn't medically possible" for the couple to have a girl.

But on Nov. 4, Kateri Schwandt gave birth to her 15th child, a girl, at St. Mary's Hospital in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

"I was in shock, I remember it vividly, I couldn't speak," Jay Schwandt told "Good Morning America." He and his wife were well-known to the medical staff, who, Schwandt said, kept "poker faces" when they asked if the dad wanted to reveal the baby's sex to the mom.

"I had to double check," he said. Kateri Schwandt, her husband told "GMA," "couldn't believe it."

His 14 sons were also in disbelief at the news.

Maggie Jayne Schwandt is now home with her brothers, 12 of whom still live at home. Their house, Jay Schwandt said, is a bit "like a fraternity house."

"It's exactly what you would think a house with 14 brothers is like," he told "GMA." "Some lifestyle changes need to be made," he laughed. "We'll do it little by little."

The Schwandt boys range in age from 2 to 28. Jay Schwandt said people used to ask him if he could imagine having a daughter. "I would tell them, 'No, I literally cannot imagine it.'"

But now that his daughter is here, the proud dad 's imagination is running.

"Sure, she'll probably be a tomboy from having 14 older brothers," he said, "but I'm really hoping for a girly-girl experience."
