3rd graders create 'Lockdown News' to keep up during isolation
There are 15 reporters on staff.
A group of students have come up with a way to keep learning, get together and inform others during school closures: a newspaper called "Third Grade Lockdown News."
The idea came from Lucy Poree and grew to include 14 other student reporters from Glorietta Elementary School in Orinda, California.
"Lucy and I were reading a Thea Stilton Mouseford Academy book," her mother Jenny Poree told "Good Morning America." "The book is about a “Mouse Newspaper” and Lucy thought it would be a great idea to start a newspaper with her friends so they could keep in touch and work on writing while they were out of school. The name and story selections are a collaborative effort."
The group meet every few days via Zoom to discuss their articles, much the same way reporters across the country are meeting with colleagues.
"Third Grade Lockdown News" has published five issues so far. Articles include "School closures get longer," "Fun facts about toilet paper," "How to avoid the boredom blues." and many more including light topics like cooking and fashion.
