Legendary basketball player Earvin "Magic" Johnson Jr. began his career in the NBA during the 1979-80 season playing for the Los Angeles Lakers. Johnson would go on to become a 10-time NBA champion, three-time NBA MVP and part of the 1992 Olympic gold medal-winning "Dream Team" win. After a physical before the 1991–92 NBA season, Johnson discovered that he had HIV. Johnson would go on to found The Magic Johnson Foundation and become a proponent for raising awareness and funding for HIV/AIDS research.
