— -- Question: Should my child have a peak flow meter?

Answer: Peak flow meters are generally not very useful in controlling asthma. Most children can be controlled with symptoms alone. Children who are able to understand when they're having trouble breathing, when they're having trouble with coughing and wheezing can use these symptoms to understand if they're asthma is under control or not. Peak flow meters can be used as an adjunct to let children know how their lung function is. This is most useful in children who don't recognize the symptoms of coughing and wheezing and can be used in a few cases.
