May 27, 2009 -- Question: What are signs of an emergency situation with regard to swine flu symptoms?

Answer: Anytime that you're so sick that you're unable to eat or drink, or your child or yourself are no longer able to move or get up, having trouble breathing, having any types [of] symptoms where they're so uncomfortable where typical measures such as fluids, or Tylenol or other types of things aren't making them better, then it's probably important to see your physician, or call your physician and ask to be seen immediately and explain your symptoms.

The main thing certainly is shortness of breath. Shortness of breath is something that no one should be experiencing normally, and needs to be evaluated rather quickly.
