Feb. 24, 2011— -- It seems the British taxpayer may be contributing more than good will towards Prince William and Kate Middleton on their wedding day. The Daily Mail reported that British Foreign Secretary William Hague -- and his wife, Ffion -- may host an extravagant reception for the estimated 1,300 wedding guests not invited to Prince William and Kate's post-wedding brunch and evening dinner dance. The bill for this event would be paid by the British Foreign and Commonwealth office -- in other words, the British taxpayer.

"After Prince Charles and Lady Diana Spencer were married in 1981, the foreign dignitaries and other guests had to fend for themselves," sources told the Daily Mail. "This time, it's thought they should be looked after."

Instead of finding their own post-royal wedding after party, the multitude of guests who are only invited to the ceremony at Westminster Abbey would be "ferried the short journey to Chelsea, where there are plans to entertain them under marquees on the grounds of the Royal Hospital," the Daily Mail reported.

A spokeswoman for the British Foreign Office told the Daily Mail, "No final decision has been made." But as she understood it, "Royal staff have been put on stand-by to oversee the event."

And the cost for this event? An estimated £100,000 (approximately $160,000) for a soiree of this size.
