US announces new sanctions on Iran for missile attack on Israel
The Biden administration announced additional sanctions targeting Iran's petroleum and petrochemical production -- areas that are already heavily sanctioned by the West -- in response to Iran’s missile attack on Israel earlier this month.
In response to Iran's "unprecedented" attack, the State Department is "taking steps today to disrupt the flow of revenue the Iranian regime uses to fund its nuclear program and missile development, support terrorist proxies and partners, and perpetuate conflict throughout the Middle East," Secretary of State Antony Blinken said in a statement.
The State Department is imposing sanctions on six entities involved in Iranian petroleum trade and identifying six vessels as blocked property, Blinken said. The Department of Treasury is also sanctioning 10 entities and identifying 17 vessels as blocked property, he said.
