IDF orders more evacuations from safe zone

Israel announced more evacuation orders in Gaza in areas that have been part of the "expanded humanitarian area" since May. The IDF said announcing they are "about to forcefully operate against" Hamas in this area.

The IDF expanded this safe zone in May as hundreds of thousands of civilians fled Rafah. On Monday, it removed a section of this zone that went north-south along the eastern border, saying Hamas had taken advantage of it to conduct military operations.

Saturday morning, it removed an additional section in the south of Khan Younis, urging more people to move into the now smaller "humanitarian area," claiming Hamas was taking advantage of the safe zone.

The "humanitarian area" starting in May was 23 square miles, it is now 18 square miles -- and it is where 1.8 million people are believed to be sheltering here, by Israel's estimate.

Harris aide pushes back on Netanyahu comments after meeting

An aide to the vice president pushed back Friday on Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu seeming to suggest Harris' public comments following their meeting a day earlier could have an impact on cease-fire negotiations.

"Well, we're trying to get one. And I think to the extent that Hamas understands that there's no daylight between Israel and the United States, that it expedites the deal. And I hope that those comments don't change that," Netanyahu told reporters when asked about her comments.

Harris' aide said in a statement there is no daylight between Harris and Biden's views.

"President Biden and Vice President Harris delivered the same message in their private meetings to Prime Minister Netanyahu: It's time to get the ceasefire and hostage deal done. And this is what the Vice President said publicly as well," the aide said.

"The public comments tracked with her previous comments on the conflict. She started with rock-solid support for Israel and then she expressed her concern about civilian causalities and the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, as she always does," the aide added.
