3 Killed as Helicopter Hits Korean Bridge

S E O U L, South Korea, May 29 -- A South Korean militaryhelicopter crashed onto a bridge in Seoul today,apparently killing all three people aboard.

A police spokesman said the rotors of the CH-47 got caughtin support wires while it hovered above during decoration workon the Olympic Bridge, built to commemorate the 1988 OlympicGames.

"We have recovered one body from the Han River below," saidthe spokesman. "Given the time that has passed since theaccident there are no chances of survival for the other twocrew."

No vehicles on the bridge were involved in the accident,which occurred about one hour before the afternoon rush hour,because the police had cleared the area for the work.

Television footage showed the tail section of thehelicopter sitting on the roadway and rescue workers collectingparts of the aircraft's main body from the river.
