— -- When this grandma brought home the bacon with her recent lottery win, she knew immediately how she'd spend it.

Vanessa Currence, of Gastonia, North Carolina, plans to host her nine children and 27 grandchildren for a lavish Thanksgiving feast after winning the $319,883 Cash 5 jackpot in the North Carolina Education Lottery.

“This is something to be grateful for,” Currence said when she picked up her check Tuesday at the lottery headquarters in Raleigh. “I’m going to treat my family real good. I’m going to rent a place and just have my nine kids and 27 grandkids all together.”

Using a combination of family members' birthdays to pick her numbers, the lucky grandmother beat the odds of 1 in 749,398 Monday night to win the Cash 5 jackpot, according to a press release.

Her winning ticket only cost her $1, and after the required state and federal taxes were withheld, she walked away with a hefty $221,519.

“I wasn’t expecting to win,” she said. “When my son told me to check my ticket, I just looked at him, and then when I saw the numbers I started jumping around.”
