Grandma Texts Wrong Teen for Thanksgiving, Now the Families Will Eat Together

— -- A teenager from Arizona will be breaking bread with strangers this Thanksgiving after someone's Grandma invited him via wrong text message.

Jamal Hinton, 17, a senior at Desert Vista High School in Phoenix, received a text Tuesday from an unknown number inviting him to Thanksgiving dinner on Nov. 24 at 3:00 p.m.

"Let me know if you are coming," the text read. "Hope to see you all."

Jamal responded by asking for a photo to confirm if it was his own grandmother behind the text.

"I was thinking ... my grandma got a new number, so why not ask for her picture?" Jamal told ABC affiliate KNXV-TV in Arizona.

The picture came in of a woman with blonde hair and glasses -- not Jamal's grandma.

"[You're] not my grandma," Jamal replied with a laughing emoji.

Jamal sent back a selfie to let her know he was not her grandson.

"I said, 'Hey, why not ask for a plate since the offer was still there,'" Jamal said.

The woman answered, "Of course you can. That's what grandmas do ... feed everyone."

Jamal told ABC News that he will attend the other grandmother's Thanksgiving with his own family next week and that he is "very excited."

He has since communicated with the woman's grandson, Brandon Burgoyne, who has also welcomed him with open arms.

Jamal shared the encounter on his Twitter page, where it yielded hundreds of replies from strangers asking to attend the Thanksgiving dinner too.

"I think that's crazy that people can actually connect and be so nice to each other with people they don't even know," Jamal told KNXV.
