— -- Kerry Washington will grace the red carpet at the Metropolitan Museum of Art for tonight’s 2016 Met Gala, and the “Scandal” actress says she has two requirements for fashion’s biggest night.

“You have to be able to touch up your own lipstick and wear a dress you can eat in,” Washington said today on “Good Morning America.”

Washington will be joined tonight by Hollywood’s biggest stars at the annual gala overseen by Vogue’s Anna Wintour. This year’s Met Gala theme is “Manus x Machina: Fashion in an Age of Technology.”

“For me, this night is really strictly about fashion,” said Washington. “This night is really about fashion as art and celebrating the Met and celebrating the history of great fashion and how it fits into our context of American art, international art.”

Last year, Washington stood out on the Met’s red carpet in a pink Prada ball gown. This year, fashion watchers will have to wait a few more hours to see her gown: “I’m not telling,” Washington said.

The “Scandal” star, who is also a Neutrogena brand ambassador, is in the middle of her fifth season playing Olivia Pope. After viewers saw a dramatic side of Pope in the most recent episode, the actress said she is grateful that she is “still being so challenged” by the show’s writers.

“I will tell you, actually, that this week’s episode to me is one of the most important episodes we’ve had in the history of the show, particularly in this election year,” Washington teased. “It is an episode not to be missed."
