— -- Scar the kitten is a fighter.

He was born with a horrible eye infection and stranded in a remote area.

Savannah Anas, a marine biologist, found him when he was only 2 weeks old and got him surgery.

“I’ve done a lot of work with biology and diseases and infections and I knew that with the infection being so close to his brain, it was most likely fatal,” Anas of Arcata, California, told ABC News.

She said the veterinarian was timid about doing surgery on the tiny kitten because he only weighed 8.5 ounces at the time, and he would not be able to be hooked up to machines or fitted with a breathing tube.

“The vet said, ‘I see it as a 50/50 chance. He either goes from this infection or he goes from this surgery,’” she recalled.

But Scar made it out of surgery just fine.

To help him heal, Scar now wears a little leather eye patch with his name etched into it. And he loves following his new mama on all her adventures.

“Scar is the cutest,” said Anas, 23. “We go on little hikes through the forest or at the beach or at the boat dock. He’s so used to going everywhere with me.”

Anas said she never thought she’d have a cat, but from the moment she laid eyes on him, she could tell “he’s a fighter.”

“He wanted to live and I needed to help him,” she said. “I’m so glad I found him. I became a mom overnight. It’s very fun, but it’s a lot of work. He’s so fantastic. It’s so rewarding.”
