— -- A celebrity-backed dog hunt is on in Beverly Hills after one of the city’s most well-known pooches was allegedly snatched on the street.

Surveillance video shows the dog, a White Maltese named Charlie, walking down the street followed by a woman and a child.

Seconds later, the woman reemerges into the surveillance camera’s view and walks off, with Charlie in her arms.

“I just want him back,” said Charlie’s owner, Julia Cohen, the co-owner of the Beverly Hills store Switch, where Charlie often sits outside.

Cohen has offered a $5,000 reward for Charlie’s safe return, while celebrity friends like Hilary Duff have taken to social media to raise awareness.

Duff posted a photo of Charlie to her Instagram account, where it has already been liked over 70,000 times.

"Charlie's a staple here. Everyone in Beverly Hills knows him. He sits outside the front of the store. He never ventures too far to the left, to the right," Duff said, according to KABC.

Another of Charlie’s Hollywood friends, comedian George Lopez, is also taking to social media to help.

Cohen, who has hired a private detective to search for Charlie, told ABC News she hopes the A-list attention will help bring Charlie home.

“We don’t have children yet so it’s like, you know, he’s our child,” she said. "We're not going to stop looking. We are going to find him no matter what.”

Anyone with information about the dog is asked to call Cohen's store at (310) 860-1650.
