— -- A 7-year-old who has a passion for garbage trucks got a birthday surprise from his local trash collectors.

Cohen Mahoney, of Lafayette, Louisiana, thought his family had missed taking out the trash on their designated garbage day when he saw a garbage truck on his street on his seventh birthday.

Instead, four employees from Republic Services, a waste collection company, had arrived to deliver a special birthday gift. The employees gave Cohen a toy garbage truck, a gift basket, trash cans and clothing with Cohen’s name monogrammed.

Republic Services did not reply to ABC News' request for comment. Cohen’s mom, Candace Mahoney, told local ABC affiliate KATC-TV that her son may one day work for the company.

“I think, if anything, it's going to add to his passion. Maybe he'll eventually be employed at RS,” said Mahoney, who did not immediately reply to ABC News' request for comment. “He says he wants to be a garbage man, so we're going to support whatever his passion is.

"To come and do something like that for a kid that age, it really is exciting for him," she added. "It's unbelievable."

Mahoney said that Cohen is always pointing out the different types of garbage cans and garbage trucks he sees along the road, and often watches clips of garbage trucks online.

Cohen even has a passion for garbage itself.

“When people are finished with plastic things I go and take them and put them in that recycle bin,” he told KATC.
