Aug. 2, 2007 — -- Wednesday, Aug. 1, students taking part in the Waite House summer program were on their way home from a field trip to Bunker Beach Water Park when the bridge they were riding over suddenly collapsed.

The images are striking -- a yellow school bus teetering on the edge of the ruined bridge, kids trapped in the wreckage, a fire blazing nearby.

Immediately, several people helped the children escape the wreckage.

While all of the children, who ranged from 5 to 13 years old, survived the incident, 15 people received medical attention, including 12 children. Two adults and two children remained hospitalized as of 11 a.m. this morning.

Tonight on "Nightline," John Donvan visits the Waite House Community Center, where youth and staff are undergoing counseling following their harrowing, close call on the failed bridge.

Watch the inside story of their experience tonight at 11:35 p.m., EDT
