Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx is the president-in-waiting for the 2015 State of the Union, a White House official confirmed.

Foxx is the designated survivor, a member of cabinet that does not attend the speech but waits in an undisclosed location to assume the presidency if there is a catastrophic attack on the Capitol.

Foxx, 42, was the youngest mayor of Charlotte, North Carolina, before the president nominated him to the cabinet, according to the Charlotte Observer. The paper also reported he was the first African-American student body president at his alma mater, Davidson College.

He was confirmed unanimously by the Senate only two months after being nominated by the president.
