Woman shot inside Capitol

Sources tell ABC News that a woman has been shot inside of the U.S. Capitol and has been seriously injured. It’s unclear what led to the shooting or if law enforcement was involved. 

A source familiar with the situation said that D.C. Fire EMS are transporting a woman in critical condition to a local hospital.

Trump watching chaos unfold on television at White House

Sources tell ABC News Trump is watching the storming of the Capitol protests on television at the White House, some close to President Trump beside themselves pushing him to do more to stop and condemn the violence playing out on Capitol Hill.

Many White House staffers avoided going to work Wednesday fearing events could be violent, and they did not want to be near the president who has been fuming for days. 

Some sources tell ABC there is chatter among White House aides to personally resign as they can't stand by watching what is happening right now play out.

The counting of Electoral College votes came to an abrupt halt on Wednesday after protesters, after being encouraged by President Trump who said he would "walk down" with them, breached the U.S. Capitol Building. 

While the building was called into on lockdown, one protester reached the Senate floor dais. Photos appear to show an armed standoff at the door of the House of Representatives. 

A source familiar tells ABC News House Speaker Nancy Pelosi has requested the National Guard to help to secure the Capitol.

Armed standoff at door of House floor

There’s been an armed standoff at the front door of the House of Representatives and security officers drew their guns drawn at someone who is trying to breach the door, according to a pool reporter in the House chamber.

Another pool reporter on Capitol Hill said he observed protestors breach the Senate chamber. Senators were evacuated earlier, per sources.

One man stood up on the Senate dais and said, "Trump won that election," according to the pool reporter, who also observed protests stalking the halls, appearing to look for senators.

Several dozen protesters were heard yelling, "Where are they?"

Capitol Police were asking for additional law enforcement assistance as protests intensify.
