"World News Tonight with David Muir" Wins Total Viewers During Major Political Week

ABC News’ “World News Tonight with David Muir” ranked No. 1 in Total Viewers (9.269 million) for the week of February 1, 2016, based on Live +Same Day Data from Nielsen Media Research. “World News Tonight” beat “NBC Nightly News” to take the top spot for the 3rd time in the last 6 weeks.
“World News Tonight” won a big political week, including David Muir anchoring “World News Tonight” from Des Moines for the Iowa Caucus on Monday and leading up to the Republican debate and New Hampshire Primary.
“World News Tonight” turned in week-to-week gains (9.185 million, 2.078 million and 1.498 million, respectively, on w/o 1/25/16) in all key target demos: Total Viewers (+1%), Adults 25-54 (+1%) and Adults 18-49 (+1%).
Season to date, “World News Tonight” is improving versus the same point last season in Total Viewers (+1% - 8.831 million vs. 8.771 million). Growing for the 4th straight year, “World News Tonight” is delivering its largest overall viewer audience in 11 years – since the 2004-05 season.
In addition, “World News Tonight” is narrowing its Total Viewer season margin with “NBC Nightly News” by more than half (-52% - 285,000 vs. 598,000), posting its closest overall viewer performance with the NBC program in 8 years – since the 2007-08 season.
“World News Tonight” decreased its gaps with “NBC Nightly News” for the 2nd week in a row among Adults 25-54 (-45% - 195,000 vs. 353,000) and Adults 18-49 (-42% - 177,000 vs. 305,000) to post its closest performances in both measures in 5 weeks – since w/o 12/28/15.
For the week, “World News Tonight” outdelivered the “CBS Evening News” by 1.524 million Total Viewers, by 231,000 Adults 25-54 and by 214,000 Adults 18-49.
