— -- NEW ORLEANS -- Panthers tight end Brandon Williams was ejected after a first-quarter brawl following Cam Newton's touchdown run during Sunday's game against the Saints.

Newton scored on a 2-yard dive to give the Panthers a 17-0 lead with 6:41 left in the quarter. As the Carolina quarterback got up, he got into a shouting match with defensive end Cameron Jordan and eventually mocked a hip-thrusting moved like wrestlers do pretending to show off a championship belt.

Newton then did his signature "Superman" move, and was pushed in the back by inside linebacker  Curtis Lofton while continuing to jaw with Jordan.

A melee between both teams ensued in which Newton was pushed through the end zone by Lofton into the padded entrance leading to a tunnel behind the goal posts.

Lofton said he had no regrets about shoving Newton to spark the brawl, as Newton was taunting Jordan at the time.

"I don't take kindly to that," Lofton said. "I saw it as straight disrespectful. ... I'd do it 100 times out of 100."

Newton raised his hands at one point and ultimately went through the padded entrance as both teams got into a pushing and shoving match.

Newton didn't address whether his initial move incited the fight.

"There was a lot of testosterone on that field at one time, so it's bound to happen whenever you have a bunch of alphas, so to speak,'' he said. "Somebody out there has to have a beta mentality, and I don't think there were many betas out there at the end of that one play. "I'm just glad we got the touchdown, as I felt that touchdown drive set the tone for the rest of the game.''

Williams charged in and appeared to throw punches at Jordan and Ronald Powell to draw the ejection and likely fine from the league.

Williams said he didn't deserve to be ejected, saying he didn't do anything others weren't.

"I saw the [defender] go after Cam,'' he said. "I just went out to break it up. I tried to push back and get out of the way. And then he [defender] went after my legs and then I moved out of the way and things just got out of hand. I felt like I was looking out for my team and sticking up for my teammates. "I don't regret that.''

The Panthers went on to rout the Saints, winning 41-10.
