The Washington Commanders are making a switch at quarterback and will start Jacoby Brissett against the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, coach Ron Rivera announced Wednesday.

Sam Howell had started the Commanders' first 15 games this season but was removed in the second half in each of the past two contests, including Sunday against the New York Jets.

Against the Jets, Brissett rallied the Commanders from a 27-7 halftime deficit, completing 10 of 13 passes with a touchdown as Washington took a 28-27 fourth-quarter lead before losing on a Greg Zuerlein field goal with five seconds remaining.

Howell, in his first full season as the Commanders' starting quarterback, has thrown for 3624 yards with 19 touchdowns and 17 interceptions, while completing 63.2% of his pass attempts.
