LOS ANGELES -- Dodgers pitcher Dustin May left Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Twins after one inning because of an injury to his right elbow.

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts said after his team's 7-3 victory that May underwent an MRI and has been diagnosed with a flexor pronator strain. He will go on the 15-day injured list and there is no timetable for his return, Roberts said.

"When he returns, I don't know," Roberts said, according to the Los Angeles Times, adding that left-hander Justin Bruihl will replace May on the major league roster.

The 25-year-old right-hander had Tommy John surgery in May 2021. He was making his ninth start of the season and has a 4-1 record with a 2.63 ERA. Opponents are batting .173 against May, which is second lowest in the National League and sixth lowest in the majors.

May, known for his long, flowing red hair, returned from reconstructive elbow surgery toward the end of last season and was 2-3 with a 4.50 ERA in six starts.

Dylan Covey, who was called up from Triple-A Oklahoma City before the game, came in for May and pitched four innings in relief, allowing five hits and two runs.

The Dodgers went on to win the game, scoring five runs in the seventh inning -- including James Outman's grand slam -- to improve their NL West-leading record to 28-16.
