Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie suspended indefinitely after meeting with coach
— -- New York Giants cornerback Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie?has been notified that he was suspended indefinitely after his meeting with coach Ben McAdoo on Thursday morning.
Rodgers-Cromartie was suspended for a "violation of team rules," according to the Giants. He was initially suspended Wednesday after he walked out of the team's facility during a defensive meeting.
The Pro Bowl cornerback left a recovery session Friday and threw his helmet in disgust when he was taken off the field late in Sunday's loss to the Los Angeles Chargers, sources told ESPN. He was in apparent pain and hobbling around the field at that time and went into the locker room with the intent to leave the stadium. He later returned to the field.
McAdoo denied there was any altercation -- verbal or otherwise -- between him and the veteran cornerback on Sunday.
"No, not at all," McAdoo said in response to a question submitted by reporters but asked by a team employee.
McAdoo does not speak with the media on Thursdays. He declined a specific request to speak this week given the circumstances.
Several players told ESPN that McAdoo had not addressed Rodgers-Cromartie's suspension with the team as of Thursday afternoon. They have tried to move forward as if it's business as usual.
Defensive end Olivier Vernon said the Giants will be without a "great player, great leader," but that they have no choice but to move forward with the players who will be available. Veterans such as cornerback Janoris Jenkins and defensive tackle Damon Harrison declined to answer questions on the subject.
The Giants are preparing to play on the road Sunday night against the Denver Broncos.
McAdoo and Rodgers-Cromartie first met Tuesday to discuss his actions. Rodgers-Cromartie was told at that time that he would be inactive for Sunday night's game and would be fined for leaving the facility Friday. He walked out of the team facility on Wednesday, prompting the suspension.
Rodgers-Cromartie returned to work early Thursday morning. He met with McAdoo and was informed of the indefinite suspension.
"It was a private conversation that will remain private," McAdoo said.
Rodgers-Cromartie stands to lose $410,588 each week he is suspended. Under the collective bargaining agreement, a player?can be suspended no more than four weeks by a team for conduct detrimental to the club.
He has one more season remaining on a five-year, $35 million deal signed in 2014.
To replace?Rodgers-Cromartie, the Giants signed cornerback Donte Deayon off their practice squad.
