-- On paper, the semifinals match of the European League Championship Series between G2 Esports and Unicorns of Love looked lopsided: G2 Esports was expected to roll through UoL without any difficulty, but UoL's last playoff series provided plenty of expectation for them to perform well and compete on even footing. Unfortunately, their hopes were dashed immediately. G2 Esports took the last semifinal against UoL with relative ease 3-1.
UoL showed occasional moments of brilliance. The two consistent offensive options for UoL was Tam?s "Vizicsacsi" Kiss and Kim "Veritas" Kyoung-min. While both stood their ground in the laning phase, the rest of the team looked unsteady, crumbling to the pressure that G2 Esports brought via rotations and lane swaps.
Vizicsacsi, especially, looked like he was suffering from miscommunication. The top laner started the laning phase well for the majority of the set, but was caught in ganks on multiple occasions without backup or warning. Whatever kind of offense UoL attempted to start was stunted almost immediately.
G2 Esports marched on, looking like the favorite to take EU LCS crown. Even without the carry ability of Luka "PerkZ" Perkovic, the rest of the lineup absolutely picked up the slack. With the aid of Gnar, Dae-han "Expect" Ki was a nuisance and a thorn in UoL's side. Expect might not have put up the flashy numbers, but his disruption and overall damage in team fights was essentially a victory for the team. The consistent carry hammer for G2 Esports, Jesper "Zven" Svenningsen, was sharp in victory or defeat; and while his safe play may not lead to explosive offense, it also doesn't lead to over-extensions or large blunders.
