— -- OTTAWA -- The Buffalo Sabres need to find a different approach when they take on the Ottawa Senators. Dany Heatley scored two goals and set up another and Daniel Alfredsson had a tally and two assists as the high-scoring Senators continued their dominance over the Sabres with a 6-1 triumph. Entering with a four-game winning streak in which they scored 25 goals, the Senators had little trouble Saturday against the Sabres, who were outscored, 15-4, in the first two contests of the season series. "We seem to play well against Buffalo, especially this year," Heatley said. "We respect them as they're very fast, so we get ready to jump out to the lead on them." Buffalo, which snapped a four-game skid with a triumph over Toronto on Friday, held Ottawa in check until tough guy Chris Neil deflected Bryan Smolinski's shot past goaltender Martin Biron with 0.2 seconds remaining in the first period. "The first period was played as a tight, tight game," Alfredsson said. "Then we get a goal with less than a second left. It's good luck for us and heartbreak for them." "The first period, we're able to keep up with them," Biron said. "We played the game we wanted, but we'd like to come out even stronger." It was all downhill from there for the Sabres, who allowed three goals in the first 5:15 of the second session and fell behind, 6-0, before Derek Roy spoiled Ray Emery's bid for his first career shutout with 5:39 remaining in the game. "It's always nice to get a shutout as a goaltender," Emery said. "It's like a perfect game, but we got the win and that's great." Heatley extended his points streak to 15 games with his 14th goal of the season 75 seconds into the middle period. He added a shorthanded tally - Ottawa's sixth of the campaign - later in the session for his seventh goal in five contests. "We got goals by moving the puck around and making good shots," Heatley said. "Things are going good, so we want to keep working hard and stay successful." Alfredsson, who tallied four times against Buffalo on November 2, netted his 15th of the season and eighth in five games 59 seconds into the second period to give Ottawa a 2-0 lead. The Senators captain set up goals by Heatley and defenseman Brian Pothier, raising his career points total to 599. Smolinski and defenseman Zdeno Chara had two assists apiece and Emery made 24 saves for the Senators, who improved to 10-0-0 against Northeast Division opponents. With Ottawa ahead, 1-0, Alfredsson fired a wrist shot from the left faceoff circle that trickled past Biron and Heatley put a wrister from the same area into the top right corner, giving the Senators three goals in 76 seconds - the fastest span in club history. "We scored with less than a second left (in the first period), which takes the air out of them a bit. We fed off that early and scored some quick goals," Alfredsson said. "We're playing with a lot of confidence, obviously. A lot of things are clicking for us. We're skating hard and once we get up, we're not laying back." On March 21, 2000 against Atlanta, Ottawa tallied three times in 1:20. Mike Fisher tapped in a rebound while on the power play at 5:15 of the second and Heatley converted a feed from Chara during a 2-on-1 rush with 3:05 remaining to make it 5-0. Heatley has four multi-goal games this season, tying Alfredsson for the team lead. Pothier unleashed a shot from the right point that found its way past Biron 5 1/2 minutes into the third to complete the scoring for the Senators, who have outscored the opposition, 30-2, while going 5-0-0 on Saturdays. "With a team like Ottawa, you can't play 40, 45 or 50 minutes. Sometimes against other teams you might be able to get away with it, but not against (them)," Biron said. "We did about 45 minutes of very good play and the other 15 minutes, they scored four on us to get away with the game, so that's the main point." Emery, who improved to 7-0-0 lifetime, stopped the first 23 shots he faced before Ottawa native Roy knocked a pass from defenseman Dmitri Kalinin past the 23-year-old netminder for his first goal of the season. "It's not like it was a bad goal or anything, so I can live with that performance tonight," Emery said.
