— -- Cleveland Browns coach Mike Pettine is not ready to commit to either Brian Hoyer or rookie Johnny Manziel as the team's starting quarterback, so the competition will go on after both struggled in Monday's preseason game at Washington.

"We're not in a position to make it at this point in time," Pettine send in a conference call with reporters Tuesday. "We got back late [after Monday's game]. Coaches didn't get back until late in the afternoon."

The audition will continue at least through Saturday's preseason game against St. Louis. The Browns finish their preseason schedule on Aug. 28 versus Chicago and open the regular season Sept. 7 at Pittsburgh.

"In an ideal circumstance we would have one [quarterback] named," Pettine said. "I'm not ruling that out ... If we have to wait until the next game, then so be it."
