— -- Jason Day sank a 43-foot eagle putt on the 18th hole to tie the lowest opening 36-hole total in PGA Tour history on Friday at the BMW Championship.

The reigning PGA Championship winner polished off his opening-round 61 in the morning, then went out and put in a seven-birdie, one-eagle effort for a 63 in the afternoon at Conway Farms Golf Club in Lake Forest, Illinois.

Among those chasing Day are world No. 2 Jordan Spieth, who is tied for fourth at 11 under after shooting 65-66, and world No. 1 Rory McIlroy, who is tied for ninth at 9 under.

If any of those three win Sunday, he will own the top spot in the Official World Golf Rankings.
