Reports: Texas cuts Chris Vaughn over alleged issues at Ole Miss

— -- The Texas Longhorns have decided to cut ties with defensive backs coach Chris Vaughn because of his alleged involvement in the NCAA recruiting violations levied against Ole Miss, according to multiple reports.

Vaughn, who joined the Longhorns before the 2014 season -- Charlie Strong's first year as Longhorns coach -- was a recruiting coordinator at Ole Miss from 2008 to 2011.

Texas acknowledged in a statement late Thursday that Vaughn's contract was not renewed but did not give a reason for ending the relationship.

"Chris did a tremendous job for us,"  Strong said in the statement. "He's a terrific football coach and a great person. However, circumstances have put us in a position that we are going to part ways."

The Ole Miss football program was cited by the NCAA this week in 13 of the 28 rules violations levied against the school in the notice of allegations the university recently received.

Of the 13 violations, four involved the staff under Houston Nutt, who was head coach from 2008 to 2011.

Vaughn signed a three-year deal with Texas before the 2014 season, with the first two seasons guaranteed and the Longhorns holding an option for a third.

According to a report by the Austin American-Statesman, Texas officials do not believe Vaughn violated any rules with the Longhorns.
