-- SOCHI, Russia -- Alexander Legkov's victory in the men's 50-kilometer cross-country race Sunday clinched the overall medals title for the host nation at the Sochi Games.
Legkov led a sweep of the podium for Russia in the 50K. Russia started the day tied with Norway for the most gold medals and a two-medal lead over the United States and finished with 13 golds and 33 total medals. The U.S. won nine gold medals and 28 total in Sochi.
Norway finished second with 11 gold medals in the final table (26 overall), Canada was third with 10 golds (25 overall), while the Netherlands and Germany both finished with 8 gold medals and 24 and 19 total respectively.
With only three events on the final day of competition -- cross-country, four-man bobsled and the men's hockey gold-medal game -- the Russians didn't waste any time in sealing the deal.
The three skiers had a wild celebration at the finish line.
