July 29, 2008 -- HARLINGEN, Texas -- A minor league baseball team that plays in an area damaged by Hurricane Dolly is providing a different sort of relief: Free tickets for the rest of the season.

The Harlingen WhiteWings of the independent United League will let fans walk into their final nine home games.

"With everyone being impacted by the storm, we want to do our part," general manager Dave Kost said.

The hurricane downed power lines in Harlingen and forced the airport to close. The WhiteWings next play at home Wednesday night against the Laredo Broncos.

The Broncos were the team that traded 10 maple bats for pitcher John Odom earlier this season.

"I personally would like to take this opportunity to invite everyone, and I mean everyone, out to Harlingen Field," Kost said. "We extend this invitation to include all the relief workers who have come to the valley from all over the state of Texas as well as nearby states.

"You won't need to buy a ticket. Just come by our offices or the ticket windows to get as many tickets as you need," he said.

The WhiteWings begin the week at 18-48 and were last in the six-team league. Box seats normally cost $6 at their ballpark.
