— -- If the University of Connecticut wins tonight's national title in NCAA Women's basketball, its senior players will be the first in NCAA history to win a championship in every season of their college careers.

As a freshman, UConn forward Breanna Stewart made a lofty goal into a proclamation that would stun the women's basketball world: that she and her fellow Huskies would eventually win four consecutive national titles in a row.

Stewart, now a senior, didn't just daydream about a four-peat that's never been done. She and seniors Moriah Jefferson and Morgan Tuck are chasing an unprecedented fourth women's national championship win to add to UConn's 11th overall since 1995.

Following the Huskies' win against Oregon State in the Final Four on Sunday, Stewart, fondly referred to as "Stewie" by her basketball family, said there's no other way she'd want to end her college career than with a win in tonight's game against her hometown team: Syracuse.

“We know what it takes to get to this level, to get to this stage, and to succeed on this stage," she said at a post-game news conference on Sunday after defeating Oregon State in the Final Four. "We are going in with the mindset that we're going to win a National Championship."

Jefferson said when she, Stewart and Tuck arrived on UConn's campus in the fall of 2012, they knew they had an opportunity to "do something special."

"We came in with a lot of great players surrounding us so we knew our pieces were there and we had the outside pieces," she said at Sunday's news conference. "We definitely talked about it, but Stewie is the one that said it on TV.”

Tuck said it's hard to believe their dreams are finally coming to fruition.

"Now to be a game away from doing it, it’s hard to really believe that," Tuck said.

UConn is on a 74-game winning streak and has won 23 consecutive games in NCAA tournament play. The seniors on the team aren't the only ones who'll make history if they're able to utilize their momentum in the title game.

Coach Geno Auriemma, who is 10-0 in national championship games, will move past UCLA's John Wooden for most titles in NCAA history with a win tonight.

UConn is heavily favored to win, but, much like the Syracuse men's team, who lost their own Final Four game, the fourth-seeded Syracuse women's team is hoping for a Cinderella storybook ending if they can find a way to uproot the Huskies' championship dreams.

Tip-off for the NCAA Women's Basketball National Championship game is at 8:30 p.m. at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis.
