Toronto Blue Jays star first baseman Vladimir Guerrero Jr. was a late scratch from Saturday's 8-2 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates because of left wrist discomfort.

Daulton Varsho slid up to No. 3, Guerrero's traditional slot, in the batting order, and Cavan Biggio entered into the lineup at first base for the second of a three-game set at PNC Park. Brandon Belt and Kevin Kiermaier each drove in two runs as the Blue Jays totaled 14 hits en route to securing a series victory without their cornerstone first baseman.

In his first at-bat Saturday, Varsho singled to center, scoring George Springer and Bo Bichette as the Blue Jays took a 4-0 lead in the first inning.

Guerrero, 24, was 1-4 with an RBI on Friday night as the Blue Jays defeated the Pirates 4-0. He is batting .318 this season with seven home runs and 21 RBIs.

In his postgame media availability, Blue Jays manager John Schneider was noncommittal about Guerrero's status for the series finale.

"We'll see how he feels [Sunday]," he said, "and go from there."

The wins in Pittsburgh come on the heels of a five-game losing streak. But with the first-place Tampa Bay Rays losing 3-2 Saturday to the New York Yankees, Toronto moved up to seven games behind the Rays in the American League East.
