White Sox's Tim Anderson has suspension reduced to five games, sources say

Chicago White Sox shortstop Tim Anderson had his suspension reduced from six to five games after settling with the league before a hearing was needed, sources told ESPN's Jesse Rogers on Thursday.

Anderson, who was suspended for his role in a brawl with the Cleveland Guardians on Aug. 5, will begin serving his suspension when the White Sox open a weekend series at the Colorado Rockies on Friday.

The White Sox and Guardians clashed when Cleveland third baseman Jose Ramirez and Anderson squared off near second base after Ramirez slid in safely on a double in the bottom of the sixth inning. The fight was the culmination of several days of trash-talking and gesturing between the teams, which most recently had picked up in a series in late July in Chicago.

For their roles in the altercation, Ramirez was suspended three games while closer Emmanuel Clase was suspended one game. Ramirez had his suspension reduced to two games, and has already served it.

Also suspended for one game were managers Pedro Grifol and Terry Francona, as well as Guardians third-base coach Mike Sarbaugh.
