WrestleMania moved; to air live with no fans

WWE's big blockbuster event of the year will still happen. Just on a much smaller scale.

In a statement Monday, WWE said WrestleMania will no longer take place at Raymond James Stadium in Tampa. Now, it will air live from the WWE training facility in Orlando, Florida. The April 5 date will still hold.

No fans will be allowed into the event. The change was made in the wake of the global coronavirus pandemic. The other shoulder events in Tampa that were scheduled -- such as NXT TakeOver, the WWE Hall of Fame ceremony and Axxess fan expo -- will also not occur as planned, per WWE.

"In coordination with local partners and government officials, WrestleMania and all related events in Tampa Bay will not take place," a WWE statement read. "However, WrestleMania will still stream live on Sunday, April 5 at 7 p.m. ET on WWE Network and be available on pay-per-view. Only essential personnel will be on the closed set at WWE's training facility in Orlando, Florida to produce WrestleMania."

WWE has also temporarily moved its television shows to the WWE Performance Center facility, including Raw on Mondays and SmackDown on Fridays, without spectators.

The 36th annual WrestleMania would have drawn upwards of 70,000 people to Raymond James Stadium.
