Microsoft has started rolling out its free online version of Office. Office Web Apps includes scaled-down versions of Word, Excel, Power Point and OneNote. Users can create, review and collaborate on documents, spreadsheets, slideshows and notes. The applications run through a web browser so users can access their files anywhere they can get online. Office Web Apps are available at office.live.com.

Microsoft is also rolling out a revamped version of Hotmail. The e-mail program features new organizational tools, integrates social networks and lets people watch videos or look at pictures right in their inbox. The Wall Street Journal's Katie Boehret says it's worth a look.

"It has some very helpful tools," she said. "For example, there is something called quick views, which automatically sorts your e-mails into four categories. Those include, Office docs, photos, e-mails that include shipping information. And any of those e-mails that come in automatically get sorted into those folders."
